FOSH Announces Winners of Youth Natural Horsemanship Contest
(08/06/2007)
Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH) is pleased to announce the winners of its Youth Natural Horsemanship Contest for Tennessee Walking Horses.
The winners are:
*
Marshall Cameron of Cookeville, TN
* Holly Wells of Smiths Grove, KY
* Katie Luttrell of Smiths Grove, KY
Each winner receives $500 in prize money for submitting videos of themselves training their Tennessee Walking Horses using natural horsemanship techniques.
Marshall Cameron’s seven year old mare, Generator’s Dixie Spirit, demonstrated a wide variety of natural horsemanship and trail class accomplishments in ground work, including jumping, flat work and allowing Marshall to stand on her and slide off her rump. Holly Wells’ demonstration was with a seven year old Tennessee Walking Horse mare, Victory Trip, that resides at her trainer’s barn, Linda Starnes. Victory Trip demonstrated a great “Catch Me Game” from a canter and provided a nice, relaxed bow. Katie Luttrell’s video was about a 16 year old Tennessee Walking Horse bay Mare, “Traveling Time” that also resides at the Starnes Stables. Traveling Time demonstrated a running walk on the circling game and a beautiful canter alongside Katie.
FOSH sponsored the natural horsemanship contest for Kentucky and Tennessee youths between the ages of 8 and 18. Youths were encouraged to use their creativity to highlight their horse’s special talent or skill—something unique, humorous or imaginative that was developed using natural horsemanship. FOSH was interested in demonstrations of how Tennessee Walking Horses could excel with natural horsemanship techniques. Interested contestants were required to submit a DVD, video or 1,000 word essay and photos demonstrating their natural horsemanship expertise with their Tennessee Walking Horse. To be eligible, horses were required to bee light-shod or barefoot.
FOSH is a national leader in the promotion of natural, sound gaited horses and in the fight against abuse and soring of Tennessee Walking Horses. For more information about FOSH, to become a member or obtain a contest application form, please visit www.fosh.info or call 800-651-7993.
